ChatGPT in Mathematics Education

Dr. Russell De Souza conducted a workshop on the use of ChatGPT in Mathematics Education for the F.Y.B.Ed students of Nirmala Institute of Education on 1st August, 2023 from 2:15 p.m. to 3:15 p.m. The workshop was attended by a total of 30 students.

The workshop aimed to explore the capabilities and application of ChatGPT an AI driven tool by Open AI. It began with an exposure to Google Assistant (also known as a Voice Chatbot) which seamlessly led to the introduction of ChatGPT.

Students were exposed to a variety of features of ChatGPT and how they can be used to generate content, ideas, opposing views and even research article structures using ChatGPT. The workshop was hands-on which allowed students to key-in different prompts and seek answers to various concepts and questions in Mathematics. Exposure to ChatGPT has definitely given a taste of AI to students in Mathematics Education. They parted with a new idea that ‘Learning is not just limited to the classroom and through the teacher and because of the teacher’.
