Post Graduate Diploma in Guidance & Counselling (PGDGC)

In a world marked by uncertainty and change young people are in search of security and stability. They encounter problems in their personal lives, their work situation and in interpersonal relationships. There is an urgent need for professional help in coping with these problems.

The PGDGC was established on 31st May 2003 by the Management of the Nirmala Institute of Education. Since its inception we have equipped students with knowledge and competencies necessary to function as counsellors in different settings. To address the needs of the young adolescents as they grapple with problems in their personal life, work situation and interpersonal relationships, the Nirmala Institute of Education started the Post Graduate Diploma in Guidance and Counselling.  The course was affiliated to the Goa University from 2008 onwards.

Practical work is given priority. Students have to complete 75 hours of personal counselling and 50 hours of testing, guidance and counselling. Five residential workshops are conducted on the different therapies. Besides students have to give a workshop in schools on relevant themes and do a dissertation on any topic related to counselling.

Course Duration:

One year part time course.

Course timings:

3.00 p.m. to 6.15 p.m.

30 students

Eligibility

Candidates must have passed the Bachelor’s Degree Examination of this University or equivalent examination of any other recognized University, securing a minimum of 45% marks or equivalent Grade.

N.B. : Candidates should have a basic knowledge of Psychology

 

Admission Procedures

The prospectus is available in the Institute office from end May to June. The prospective candidates can collect the same,fill it and submit it to the Institute within a time frame of 15 – 20 days as mentioned in the prospectus.

After the submission of the forms, they are scrutinised and a date is fixed for the oral interviews. The interview is conducted by a panel of three professors and the co-ordinator of the course.

The course starts from June to April followed by the exams.

  • Four Papers - the examination is conducted by the University University

Paper II      :  Educational & Vocational Guidance & Counselling

Paper III    :  Behaviour Dysfunction

Paper IV    :  Approaches to Counselling Therapy
