Students of Nirmala Institute of Education Shine at MEAR 2024 - Goa University
“MEAR 2024 - Making Equality A Reality” hosted by the Manohar Parrikar School of Law, Governance and Public Policy Women’s Studies Programme on March 19th, 2024, served as a platform to advocate for Gender Equality and Women's Empowerment. Participants explored crucial women's rights issues through competitions and activities, inspired by the United Nations' theme "Invest in Women, Accelerate Progress" for International Women's Day. The event commenced with the inaugural ceremony featuring esteemed guests who shared motivational insights on the importance of recognizing and uplifting women in society, setting the tone for a day of thoughtful discourse and creative expression.
Among the highlights were competitions like MEAR Researcher, Paper Express, Speak to Lead, and Wake the Street, each designed to engage participants in exploring and addressing gender disparities through research, art, oratory, and street theater. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students across various colleges in Goa, reflecting a collective commitment to advancing gender equality. The Nirmala Institute of Education also actively contributed to the MEAR event. Accompanied and guided by Assistant Professor Ms. Gautami Khandeparkar, students from Nirmala Institute of Education showcased their talents and dedication towards advancing gender equality. Notably, Miss Leanne D'Souza and Bernice Viegas from F.Y.B.Ed. represented their Institute in the Paper Express competition, impressively securing the 3rd prize. Similarly, Jude Fernandes from S.Y.B.Ed. participated in the Speak to Lead competition and clinched the 3rd prize, showcasing eloquence and passion in advocating for women's empowerment.
As the day drew to a close, participants and winners were recognized during the award ceremony, culminating in a celebration of their efforts to make equality a reality in their communities and beyond.
