Smart learning with AI, Cybersecurity fundamentals, and Protecting Yourself in the Digital Age.

Nirmala Institute of Education or under the aegis of IQAC, organized a workshop titled "Smart Learning with AI and Cybersecurity Fundamentals: Protecting yourself in the Digital Age" on 29 and 30 June 2026 in the Annex Hall for the First Year B.Ed. students. The programme was coordinated with the objective of creating awareness among future educators about the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the critical importance of cybersecurity in both academic and professional life.

The session provided an insightful overview of AI as a system capable of performing tasks typically requiring human intelligence, such as recognizing patterns and generating educational content. The resource person explained that Generative AI tools like ChatGPT and NotebookLM serve as powerful teaching assistants, helping educators accelerate professional work by generating lesson plans, worksheets, and revision notes. Special emphasis was laid on aligning these technologies with NEP 2020 to support experiential learning and differentiated instruction.

During the second day, the focus shifted to cybersecurity, defined as the practice of protecting devices and networks from unauthorized access. Students were introduced to various cyber threats, including phishing, social engineering, malware, and ransomware. The speaker elaborated on the nature of targeted attacks like spear phishing and the risks associated with using public Wi-Fi. Participants were made aware of the importance of safeguarding digital identities through strong passwords and Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA). The discussion also highlighted the ethical responsibilities associated with AI, such as protecting student privacy and avoiding a total dependency on technology. The program enabled students to understand their role as digital role models who must verify information and protect student records. Through interactive discussions, participants gained awareness of the need to report incidents to the National Cyber Crime Portal if security is compromised. The talk was very informative and beneficial, helping students understand that while AI is a tool for smart learning, human teachers remain essential for providing empathy and values. The objectives of the program were successfully achieved, and the participants gained valuable knowledge for their future careers.
