Organised a session on 'Intellectual Property Rights'

Nirmala Institute of Education or under the aegis of IQAC, organized a Talk on Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) on 29th June 2026 in the Annex Hall for the First Year B.Ed. students. The session was conducted from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and was coordinated by Ms. Ayesha Jerelie Alvares. The programme was compered by Mr. Antonio De Souza, while the resource person was introduced by Ms. Uzma Desai. As a token of appreciation, a potted plant was presented to the resource person by Ms. Savia D’Cruz.

The session was delivered by Dr. Saba V. M. Da Silva, Professor of Law, who provided an insightful overview of the concept of Intellectual Property Rights and their significance in academic, legal, and professional contexts. She explained the distinction between corporeal and incorporeal property and emphasized the importance of protecting intellectual creations to promote innovation, creativity, and ethical practices.

During the session, Dr. Da Silva discussed the various forms of Intellectual Property Rights, including copyrights, patents, trademarks, geographical indications, industrial designs, and trade secrets. She elaborated on the scope, nature, and duration of protection available under each category. Special emphasis was placed on copyright, plagiarism, fair use, and the ethical responsibilities associated with the use of intellectual property. Through practical examples and interactive discussions, students gained a better understanding of the importance of respecting original work, acknowledging sources appropriately, and avoiding academic misconduct. The session also encouraged participants to adopt responsible practices in research, writing, and their future professional careers.

The talk proved to be highly informative and beneficial, enhancing the participants' awareness of Intellectual Property Rights and their relevance in education and everyday professional life. The students actively participated throughout the session and appreciated the valuable insights shared by the resource person.
