WORKSHOP ON GENERATIVE AI

A Workshop on Generative AI was organized on Tuesday, 19th August 2025, from 3:00 pm to 4:30 pm at the Main Hall, Nirmala Institute of Education, Panjim, Goa, under the Lenovo Leap NextGen Scholar Program in collaboration with the Government of Goa and BharatCares. The program was conducted under the guidance of Principal, Dr. Russell D’Souza, and coordinated by Mr. Subodh Haldankar, TIP Coordinator.

The programme was compered by Ms. Arushka Coutinho (F.Y. B.Ed.). In his welcome address, Principal Dr. Russell D’Souza emphasized the aims of the workshop – to provide hands-on experience, encourage digital innovation, and equip students with future-ready skills.

Ms. Daniella Colaco then introduced the resource person, Mr. Praneet Palli, Technical Consultant at BharatCares and former AI Engineer at Quantumics AI. Mr. Palli began the session with an interactive discussion, asking students about the AI tools they were familiar with, such as Google Assistant, ChatGPT, Alexa, Gemini, and Siri. He explained the concept of Artificial Intelligence as the ability of machines to simulate human intelligence and decision-making, and highlighted the different types of AI, with a special focus on Generative AI. Using simple examples, he demonstrated how Generative AI is transforming fields such as content creation, education, healthcare, and entertainment.

He also introduced the concepts of Machine Learning and Deep Learning, explaining how these technologies enable machines to analyze data, identify patterns, and produce accurate outcomes. While highlighting the immense opportunities created by AI, Mr. Palli also drew attention to its dangers and ethical concerns, including job displacement, privacy invasion, deepfakes, and security risks.

The workshop was highly insightful and interactive, enabling students to reflect on both the potential and risks of AI in today’s world. The session concluded with a Vote of Thanks delivered by Prof. (Dr.) Maya Carvalho e Rodrigues, who appreciated the valuable insights shared by the resource person and the efforts of the organizers.

Photographs of the event were taken by Mr. Milind Anandan and Mr. Nuriel Fernandes (F.Y. B.Ed. student).
