International Day of Yoga Celebration 2023-2024 at Nirmala Institute of Education, Altinho-Panaji

The Nirmala Institute of Education Altinho- Panaji enthusiastically celebrated the International Day of Yoga on 21st June 2023 at the college yoga hall. The theme for this year’s yoga day was ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ which meant ‘The World is One Family’. The event witnessed the participation of students and faculty making it a grand success.

The session commenced with a brief introduction on yoga and the importance of the day by College Director of Physical Education and Sports, Mr.Clifton Fernandes. The Offg. Principal, Dr. Delia Antao, in her welcome address conveyed that yoga not only promotes physical fitness but as stated by the UN, it is also meant to promote health,harmony and peace among the people, which as Indians we should prove to the world by seriously practising it ourselves.The programme continued with a session on yoga by following a video released by the Ayush Ministry Government of India on the common yoga protocol in which Asanas (yoga postures) that promote physical strength and flexibility, Pranayama (breathing exercises) that enhance mindfulness and focus and Dhyana were shown. The session concluded with a peaceful meditation, allowing individuals to relax and rejuvenate. A vote of thanks was given by Ayesha Alvares, Instructor in Physical Education, expressing gratitude to all those who helped in making the event a success.

The event witnessed a substantial turnout, with both students and faculty members actively participating in the yoga session. Their enthusiasm and dedication towards embracing yoga as a part of their daily lives was commendable. The session not only provided physical benefits but also emphasised the importance of holistic well-being and stress reduction.
