Faculty Development Programme (FDP) on Research Methodology

The Nirmala Institute of Education, Altinho, Panaji, Goa, in collaboration with the Directorate of Higher Education, Government of Goa, successfully organised a Faculty Development Programme (FDP) on Research Methodology from the 25th to the 29th of November 2024. The programme aimed at enhancing the research capabilities of Faculty members from various institutions across the State and beyond, equipping them with the required knowledge, skills, tools and techniques to effectively conduct and contribute towards academic research. 

Professor Vithal Tilve, a distinguished academician from the Research and Innovation Department of the Directorate of Higher Education was the Chief Guest for the inaugural function. In his inaugural address, Professor Tilve emphasised the importance of research in shaping educational practices and driving innovation in higher education. Throughout the five-day programme, the participants were exposed to a wide array of thought-provoking and practical sessions conducted by eminent academicians and experts from across India such as Prof. (Dr) V. P. Joshith, Prof. (Dr.)M.N. Musthafa, Prof. (Dr) Amrut G. Kumar, all from Central University, Kerala. Prof. (Dr) N. C. Ojha and Prof. (Dr) Ramesh Babu from RIE, Bhopal and Prof. (Dr) Reena Cheruvalath, ftom BITS Pilani, Goa campus.These sessions covered a comprehensive spectrum of topics in research methodology, including quantitative and qualitative research, data analysis, literature review strategies, research ethics, and the application of innovative research tools. The varied and expert-led sessions ensured that faculty members received insights that were not only theoretical but also practically applicable to their ongoing or future research projects.

The FDP was meticulously coordinated by Assistant Professor, Pratiksha Shirodkar. Under her leadership, the programme was designed to provide a blend of lectures, workshops, and interactive sessions, creating an engaging environment for participants.The sessions were structured to foster collaboration among researchers, promote critical thinking, and enable faculty to delve deeper into the intricacies of research methodology.
The valedictory function, held at 3:30 p.m. on November 29, 2024, marked the successful conclusion of the programme. Professor G. Srinivas, Deputy Director of Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), presided over the event as Chief Guest. In his address, Professor Srinivas emphasised the vital role that Asst. Professors have to play as researchers to enhance the quality of academic research. He urged the participants to implement the knowledge gained during the FDP in their future research endeavours and continue exploring new avenues in academia. The FDP concluded with the distribution of certificates to the participants followed by a formal Vote of Thanks by the Programme coordinator, Ms. Pratiksha Shirodkar. The feedback received from the attendees was overwhelmingly positive, with many highlighting the enriching learning experience and the high standard of the sessions. Nirmala Institute of Education and the Directorate of Higher Education, Government of Goa, are committed to providing continuous professional development opportunities to faculty members and fostering a robust research culture within the academic community.
