A Session on Women’s Rights

On Tuesday, June 25, 2024, the SAKSHAM Cell, under the aegis of IQAC, organised an enlightening session at NIE centered on Women's Rights. The session's primary aim was to raise awareness among teacher-trainees and imbue them with knowledge concerning various facets of women's rights.

The session garnered enthusiastic participation from teacher-trainees and esteemed faculty members, totaling approximately 91 participants. Ms.Shruti Thali, a first-year teacher-trainee, graciously introduced Mrs. Ketaki Parob Gadekar, the distinguished resource person for the event. Ms. Sangeeta Kadam, as the Coordinator of SAKSHAM Cell, provided a compelling glimpse into the resource person's notable background. The session concluded with heartfelt gratitude expressed by Ms.  Daniella Miriam De Souza.

Objective: The session's overarching objective was to foster awareness and stimulate dialogues surrounding women's rights, equipping participants with a profound understanding of issues pertaining to gender equality.

The session commenced with a profound exploration into the societal significance of women's rights and the imperative need for gender parity. Mrs. Ketaki Parob Gadekar, an esteemed Psychologist and transformational speaker  in the field of women's rights, delivered a poignant address, shedding light on contemporary challenges faced by women across diverse domains of life. She underscored the pivotal roles played by legal safeguards, education, economic empowerment, and societal solidarity in advancing gender equality. The session encouraged active participation, fostering enriching exchanges of ideas among the attendees.

Real-life case studies were eloquently presented, illustrating instances of gender-based injustices, disparities, and successful endeavors that have propelled the cause of women's rights forward.

Topics Covered:

The session covered a wide range of women's rights issues, position of women in society  including

  1. Violence in the family- Traditional practices, son preference, domestic violence, sexual assault within marriage.
  2. Violence in the community: Rape, sexual violence at workplace, custodial violence against women, trafficking etc 

Session Highlights:

The session gave a clear picture of the laws and challenges women face in society. The speaker involved teacher-trainees by discussing real-life examples and case studies, making the session very informative and meaningful. At the end, there was an interactive session where teacher-trainees had the opportunity to pose questions and receive further insights from the resource person.

Conclusion: The Women's Rights session held on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, at NIE and coordinated by SAKSHAM Cell under the aegis of  IQAC,teamed by Ms. Sangeeta Kadam, Ms. Millie Pereira and Mrs. Sharmila Kerkar achieved a notable success. The resource person effectively educated teacher-trainees on various women's rights issues, motivating them to advocate for societal change. The session garnered positive feedback, with participants expressing gratitude for the opportunity to enhance their knowledge and awareness.

We extend our appreciation to Mrs. Ketaki Parob Gadekar for her invaluable contribution, Ms. Ms.Shruti Thali for the introduction, Ms. Sangeeta Kadam for highlighting the resource person's previous work, and Ms.Daniella Miriam De Souza  for proposing a vote of thanks. The session was outstanding, and we anticipate organising more informative events in the future.

Outcome: The session proved highly informative and engaging, effectively raising awareness about women's rights among teacher-trainees. It encouraged meaningful dialogues and sparked reflective contemplation on the obstacles women encounter and possible avenues for improvement. Participants left with a heightened understanding of the significance of gender equality and a revitalised determination to promote women's rights within their communities.
